I’m a software developer with 10+ years experience in remote leadership, software engineering, product management, product design, cross-functional team leadership, people management and mentorship.

I'm currently a Software Development Director at thoughtbot, where I manage a world class development team working directly with clients to deliver high-quality, well-tested software, mentor engineering teams in software best practices, advise on product prioritization, agile process, team culture and communication.

Software Engineering

As a Senior Software Engineer, I work directly with clients to deliver high-quality, well-tested software, and mentor engineering teams in software best practices. My current focus is on web development. I enjoy working with Python, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Sass, React, Stimulus, git, vim, and more.

Product Management

I have 6+ years of experience in Product Management, and am experienced in leading and running product strategy, product prioritization, agile processes, A/B testing, qualitative and quantitative user research and reporting, analytics, stakeholder management, and more. As a software consultant, I still get to flex these product chops every day, which I love!

Design

I have 10+ years of experience in a wide range of Design disciplines including design thinking, user research & user interviews, product design sprints, user experience design, user interface design, product design, information design and infographics, branding, visual design, and communication design. While I no longer work on design execution directly, I do still advocate for a better experience for customers as part of my development and leadership work.

Team Leadership

As a Software Development Director I am currently responsible for overseeing the growth and happiness of a 20+ person software development team. I help provide context, structure, prioritization, and help my team address and resolve client, technical, and interpersonal challenges.

In previous roles, I have managed teams of Designers, as well as cross-functional teams.

As a team lead during the COVID-19 global pandemic, I am actively working with my team to assure they’re supported during these difficult times, and connected with others in a remote environment.

Organizational Leadership

I’ve served in multiple Director and Executive roles, and have also led departments while holding less flashy titles.

As a Director of Product Management at a market research firm, I oversaw the build of a new SaaS B2B subscription platform that launched on time, under budget, and over scope.

As the Product Manager responsible for mobile growth at a video app startup, I increased a quarterly core strategic mobile growth KPI by 153%.

I have a proven track record of delivering on company goals, as well as setting goals and objectives that ladder up to each other from the department-specific to company-wide.

Volunteering & Code Mentorship

I volunteer with Code Cooperative, an organization that creates life-changing opportunities in technology for people impacted by incarceration.

I was a mentor with the 2019-2020 fellowship, where I taught an amazing group of formerly incarcerated and justice involved individuals how to code. Over 15 weeks, they learned how to build products with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, how to collaborate in teams with git and Github, how to customize their setup using bash, how to apply principles of lean product development, and so much more.

I continue to be involved with Code Cooperative to collaborate on special projects.
